What a banner year we’ve had when it comes to getting our wines in front of some of the world’s most distinguished and influential people.

It all started earlier in the spring when we were the only winery selected to pour a range of our wines for His Royal Highness Prince Charles, when he visited the Evergreen Brickworks in Toronto. The Prince was accompanied by his entourage of security and international colleagues, including Mr. Galen Weston Sr., who sampled the wines and proceeded to order our Chardonnay Sandstone Old Vines 2007.

Several weeks ago, we were presented with an opportunity to include our wines in a private tasting which would determine which Ontario VQA wines would be used for the G8 summit at Deerhurst last week. We were delighted to learn that our 2007 Funk Vineyard Old Vines Riesling had been selected and we promptly delivered 12 cases to Deerhurst just in time for the leaders’ arrival, which included amongst others our own Prime Minister Stephen Harper, US President Barack Obama and British Prime Minister David Cameron. Our 2009 Cabernet Rosé was also ordered by the Royal York Hotel for use during the G20 summit in Toronto.

With heads held high and glowing hearts about to burst, earlier this week we learned that our Cuvée 13 Rosé 2007 had been selected for an exclusive luncheon for Her Royal Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II at the Museum of Nature in Ottawa. The wine was selected as one of only 4 served with a menu that proudly celebrates fine Ontario foods and wines. Debbie Trenholme, owner of Savvy Company (www.savvycompany.com) and certified sommelier was chosen to pick the wines for the event.

Ms. Trenholme said of this opportunity, “I will never forget the phone call when I was asked to be the Sommelier for a private luncheon for her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II during her Canada Day visit to Ottawa. The caterers for this special event – Thyme & Again Creative Catering – requested that I handpick a selection of wines to pair with each course. The meal featured locally grown ingredients and produce – naturally, it was a prime opportunity to showcase Ontario wines and wow the guests.”

So all in all, it’s been a spectacular year for 13th Street Winery and it’s only July! Presently, we are enjoying one of the most settled, sunny and warm vintages in our history and the vines are looking absolutely fabulous. We are almost a full two weeks ahead and at this point 2010 promises to be the vintage of the decade.

We would be delighted to host you at our beautiful new winery at 1776 Fourth Avenue in west St. Catharines. We’d love to show you the artwork, the vineyards, the new bakery café and sample a range of new wines. Please feel free to contact me for further information or to arrange a visit to the winery in the coming months.
