Cave Spring rieslings get rare Wine Spectator attention

Note: Cave Spring Cellars sent out a press release today (Oct. 12) bringing attention to three recent reviews in Wine Spectator, a U.S. wine magazine that rarely takes note of Canadian wines. Here is the release.

Wine Spectator, the world’s most important wine publication, has shone the spotlight on three Cave Spring Rieslings in their October 15th issue.

Both the 2008 Riesling CSV and the Riesling Estate were rated an outstanding 90 points. This marks a milestone both for Cave Spring and Canadian wine, as we are the only Canadian winery to have repeatedly received 90-point Wine Spectator ratings.

The Riesling Estate was also highlighted by the magazine’s senior editor and Riesling expert Bruce Sanderson as one of only seven extraordinary, “White Hot” wine values from some of the finest producers around the world. Every bit as impressive was the 88-point rating for our entry level Riesling Niagara Peninsula 2008, which was showcased as a Top 125 Global Value Selection for its remarkable quality and modest price.

Wine Spectator has also given us their nod by inviting us to their prestigious New World Wine Experience in Las Vegas on October 30-31. Winery co-founder Len Pennachetti will be presenting our wines, standing shoulder to shoulder with an esteemed group of over 200 top producers from around the world at this exclusive, invitation-only event. For more information visit Wine Spectator.

In recognition of these standout scores, we’re pleased to offer you an exclusive, six bottle package of these exceptional wines, including two bottles each for just $126.00 (taxed included). SAVVY SHOPPER ‘WHITE HOT’ SELECTION     90 POINTS

“Verging on full-bodied, this wine delivers plenty of extract, which buffers the submerged acidity. Peach, lime and quinine notes hold the center, the finish is long and generous. Drink now through 2015.” – Bruce Sanderson

’08 Riesling CSV Estate Bottled, VQA Beamsville Bench     90 POINTS

“Nicely balanced between the peach, apricot and grapefruit aromas and flavours and the bracing structure; in a dry style. It all comes together with lingering fruit and freshness on the long finish. Drink now through 2014. ” – Bruce Sanderson

Here’s what Wines In Niagara had to say about the CSV 2008 in a recent review:

Cave Spring CSV Riesling 2008 ($30, Vintages, winery, web, 4.5 stars) — The ’08 version of this wine will undoubtedly be counted among the best from the CSV vintages. It’s youthful on the nose and tightly wound but showing exotic tropical fruit aromas to go with profound talc and mineral notes. It’s made with slightly more residual sugar to balance out the high acids and reveals white peach, grapefruit, tropical and apple fruits that are playfully sweet and tart in the mouth. The minerality of this wine is just starting to poke through the rousing fruit flavours. Should age beautifully.
