As winemaker Michael Bartier transitions to a consultant role, Road 13 is excited to announce their new winemaker J-M Bouchard. Hailing from Montreal, Bouchard is a Canadian winemaker who has worked in cellars around the world perfecting his expertise. First enthralled by wine while working in hospitality roles, Bouchard worked in Australia and eventually studied wine science there as well. Through his work in Australia, Europe, and in the Niagara region and the Okanagan Valley, Bouchard is an international success. Road 13 Vineyards is very pleased to have him join their tight-knit team.

Owner Pam Luckhurst notes the staffing changes. “We are thrilled to have had a winemaker of Michael Bartier’s calibre for the past five years, and are happy for him that he is working towards his personal goal of having his own winery,” she says. “We wish him every success in his new venture and appreciate his assistance with our succession plan.”

“And, we are excited to have J-M join us at Road 13,” she continues. “We all know that he has big shoes to fill but we are confident that he will lead the winemaking team into the next chapter in Road 13’s story.”

Bouchard is enthusiastic about his new winemaking position at Road 13. “I am excited to join the team,” says Bouchard. “I had admired the work being done here, as the winery’s approach is close to mine. Like Michael, I like to focus on non-interventionist and terroir-driven wines,” he continues. “As I transition into my role and Michael leaves, we will work together to ensure that the wines that everyone loves from Road 13 are maintained.”

About Road 13 Vineyards:

Owned by Pam and Mick Luckhurst since 2003, Road 13 Vineyards is an Okanagan sensation. The wines express the special character of the South Okanagan’s renowned Golden Mile Bench. Their motto, “it’s all about the dirt” reflects their belief that great wines start in the vineyard. The winery offers award-winning wines in three distinct tiers: a rose, and red and white blends called Honest John’s; a varietal series of red and white wines under the Road 13 label; and a premium tier of small lots and blends called Jackpot. In 2010 two premium blended wines were added to great success: Rockpile, a blend of red varieties; and Stemwinder, a blend of white varieties. Road 13 is located south of Oliver, BC on Road 13 off Highway 97. Open year round, the wine shop offers small lots and back vintages in addition to current releases.
