You can help wildlife injured in devastating Australia wildfires at Niagara fundraiser

In response to the catastrophic devastation to wildlife in Australia due to unprecedented widespread fires, a major fundraising initiative will be launched on Jan. 24 in Beamsville.

Karen Black of Indigo Pet Photography is behind the global initiative called Paws for Oz. All the proceeds from the campaign will go to Wildlife Victoria’s Emergency Response.

Driven by an immense love of animals, Black’s plan is to bring together pet photographers globally who are willing to donate their time to this worthy cause. This campaign will assist in the rescue and care of injured and displaced animals including koalas, wombats, bandicoots, bilbies, fruit-bats, possums, dingoes, kangaroos and other threatened native wildlife. Over a billion animals have been tragically lost due to the on-going fires and billions more injured.

All information about participating pet photographers and how to book your session will be available at pawsforoz.org as of Jan. 24.

The Ontario wine industry formed a committee of three people to facilitate this venture; Karen Black, Meg McGrath and Jennifer Hart all bring individual strengths and experience to the project. For McGrath, it is personal as she grew up in Victoria and is particularly impassioned by the events happening in her homeland.

The fundraising campaign will kick off on Jan. 24 at 6 p.m. at Angel’s Gate Winery.
