Chefs named for Cuvee wine awards gala

St. Catharines, ON, February 8, 2011 – The line-up of chefs has been announced for the Cuvée Gala, taking place on F

riday, March 4th. Ontario’s culinary excellence will be on display at the Gala, which is part of Cuvée Weekend, Niagara’s foremost wine and food celebration.

The chefs will each present three different creations at individual live cooking stations throughout the Gala, alongside wines poured by Ontario’s best-known producers. The menu for the evening consists of “tasting plates”, such as Lobster & Asparagus Crispy Rice Cakes, a Canadian Raw Oyster Bar, and Wild Boar Sausage with Black Truffle.

The chefs participating in the Gala truly represent the best local cuisine to be found throughout Ontario and include local wine country stars, Cuvée veterans, and new faces:

· Chef Kevin Maniaci, Inn on the Twenty Restaurant
· Chef David Penny, Inniskillin Wines/ Jackson-Triggs Niagara Estate/ Le Clos Jordanne, a Constellation Company
· Chef Oscar Turchi, Savoia Hors D’Oeuvres
· Chef Ryan Crawford, Stone Road Grill
· Chef David Watt, Zest Restaurant
· Chef Michael Olson and students, The Niagara Culinary Institute
· Chef Claudio Marchese, Ponte Vecchio, Fallsview Casino Resort

Guests will also enjoy Ontario artisan cheeses from The Dairy Farmers of Canada and Italian Ice Cream, for a total of nine food stations.

The Gala is only one part of the weekend’s festivities, which also include the Cuvée En Route passport touring and tasting program. Cuvée Weekend tickets are available at Cuvee or by calling 905-684-8688. Cuvée En Route admission can be purchased separately for $30.00 per person, via the same outlets or at participating wineries on Cuvée Weekend. Ticket and event information, details about Cuvée En Route tastings, overnight accommodation packages, and event announcements can all be found on the Cuvée web site.
